Nov.1 on the lakes of Oak Ridges

Bond Lake

Two willow trees have been taken down by beavers, on the shore of Bond Lake, just a hundred yards from Yonge Street.   I should not have been surprised, but I was.   I have never seen evidence of beaver activity on this small lake before but these soft-wood willows seem to have been quite appealing to the beaver.   Below are the ancient ruins of the Metropolitan Railway steam power plant built in the late 1890s.

Lake Wilcox
A few windsurfers attempted to paddle on Lake Wilcox on November 1.   The temperature was a bearable ten degrees but the  winds were daunting and the paddlers gave up shortly after starting.   As they they paddled into the wind. they stayed in one spot.   The one paddler who made any headway was moving like a sailboat, tacking across the wind.   Below are are two somewhat sombre scenes from the new Lake Wilcox Park at the eastern end of the lake.
